Core competencies

CURE (Center for Usability Research and Engineering) is an Austrian non-profit research organization. Within human-computer interaction research our group at CURE is specialized in a number of research challenges, in particular on the user experience, usability and acceptance of privacy-enhancing technologies and interaction and interface design for new technologies. Through current and previous projects (such as LABORANOVA, PrimeLife and uTRUSTit) we have gained knowledge about requirements analysis, visualization of complex data structures, interaction design, usage patterns, information disclosure, user experience and usability in the area of trust, security and privacy-enhancing technologies as well as user analysis. We are further interested in dealing with innovative methods for modeling virtual humans and advanced feedback mechanisms. CURE has an interdisciplinary team that includes psychologists, design ethnographers, designers, HCI and usability professionals among others. We are specialized in conducting usability evaluations (expert evaluations, user testing, online studies, etc.), prototyping (mock-ups, interfaces, web-sites), interaction design and research in the area of novel and complex interfaces (e.g. social networks, privacy-enhancing technologies, internet of things).
