Core competencies

I am the head of the LDCAE (Laboratory of detection and characterization of environmental biohazard agents) which is mainly dedicated to environmental monitoring through biological threats detection and biosecurity.
We focus on detection and identification of biological (bacteria, micro-algae, viruses) and biochemical (toxins) agents by developing specific immunological and genetic tools. Our advanced expertise in selection and biophysical characterization of high quality bioresources allows us to target two levels of biodetection:
- an early detection especially in the field of marine and airborne micro-organisms,
- a specific identification of biological agents in case of confirmed threats.
These thematics are realized with academic and industrial partnerships and are achieved with respect to a Quality Management System ISO9001.
I mainly work since 2006 on biosecurity and biodefense programs and manages biodetectionprojects. I created a real-time qPCR platform in CEA-Marcoule in order to develop genetic detection assays of biothreat agents. This activity relies on a great expertise on the field of molecular biology and includes (i) probes design, synthesis and purification, (ii) genomic DNA purification and (iii) multiplex assays development. Alternatively, I have consulting and reviewing activities in these fields.
The LDCAE (Laboratoire de Détection et Caractérisation dAgents biologiques Environnementaux), lead by Valérie
Tanchou, is part of the Service of Biotechnology and Nuclear Toxicology (SBTN) in Marcoule (CEA Marcoule / DSV /
iBEB / SBTN).
