The Engineering Biomass area of the D3A Department is operating in the field of biomass for energy and industry. Its
available advanced facilities, equipment and instruments that make possible carrying on researches about new and
traditional subjects related to the materials, processes and production systems of this sector.The biomass energy
applications under development are numerous; among them, the pretreatment of raw feedstock, new technologies
for thermal energy conversion and environmentally sustainable management of energy and biomass production are
the most interesting for companies and researchers looking for advanced solutions and innovative fuels.For this
reason the Research Area has developed and has at disposal some special equipment and devices to analyze the
most important processes for the biomass energy chains and for several different applications of the biofuels, as:
characterization of the solid and liquid biomass, densification and pellettization of the biomass, Biogenic content
analysis, combustion emission analysis, torrefaction biomass as well as biomass analysis on large scale for a
sustainable planning as support to decision makers.
