Core competencies

The activities of the AVIRES research group deal with many topics in the areas of Computer Vision,
Pattern Recognition, Machine Learning, Natural User Interfaces, and Neuroscience. In particular, the
group has specific experience in the fields of security, pattern recognition, active vision, video
surveillance, biometrics, data fusion, data transmission, human-computer interaction, hand and body
motion capture systems, hand and body gesture recognition and interpretation, 3D human modelling
and designing, 3D virtual reality, face detection and facial expression recognition, content based
image and video retrieval. Currently, the AVIRES group is focusing on study specific applications of
advanced human-centred systems in the fields of 3D human representation, 3D hand fine detection,
real-time interaction, and 3D virtual environment modelling.
