The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (*DIEE*) of the University of Cagliari is an
education and research institution offering B.Sc, M.Sc and Ph.D degrees in Electrical
engineering,Electronic engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, and Bioengineering. The
Pattern Recognition and Applications (PRA) group is part of the Department of Electrical and
Electronic Engineering of the University of Cagliari, Italy. PRA group is made up 5 faculty
members, 6 post-doc researchers, one free-lance consultant, and 4 PhD students. PRA mission is
to address fundamental issues for the development of future pattern recognition systems, in the
context of real applications.
PRA team has a 12 years experience on the development of next generation pattern recognition
systems for real applications such as biometric personal authentication, multimedia documents
categorization and retrieval, and computer security. In particular, the PRA group developed
techniques for image classification, content-based image retrieval, text categorization and
information fusion in a number of application scenarios such as remote sensing, visual assessment
of product quality, image retrieval in personal archives, biometrics, etc. A significant contribution in
these application areas has been provided by the use of the “multiple classifier system” approach,
which is aimed to fuse information from different sources or from different data processing
techniques. Research activities are carried out in the framework of national and international R&D
activities funded by public as well as private initiatives. The results of PRA research activities are
published in international conferences and journals. More information at http://prag.diee.unica.it
