Campus Vesta is an institution for education and research, providing education and training for fire-fighters, policemen, ambulance personnel, disaster management specialists and companies/public bodies that deal with security. Having a public character, the majority of Campus Vesta’s funding is provided by the province of Antwerp and the federal government. Another part of the funding is based upon tuition fees paid by companies for training their employees.
Campus Vesta provides education and training at three levels, 1) for all ranks of fire fighters, policemen (except officers) and ambulance personnel, 2) for people who are already working within a police- or fire fighting corps or ambulance service, but who need refreshing-up courses or specialized training, and 3) for companies and local communities (such as training for people who are responsible for the fire prevention policies within companies).
Campus Vesta also functions as a knowledge centre for local police and fire fighter corpses. The institution captures knowledge and tries to transfer it to the field. The knowledge accumulated within the school is also shared with public bodies or companies that have special questions regarding public safety or other closely related issues.
