The mission of the Institute is the study of the Tertiary sector, considered an important component of advanced economic systems and a key element for territorial system competitiveness. Significant competences, constantly fuelled by participating in International initiatives, have been achieved on the analysis of logistic integration processes, strategic management of tourism services, the economic improvement of Cultural Heritage as well as through the internationalization of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). The IRAT urban planning and design unit is involved in the development of the EU 7FP-funded project BESECURE Best practice Enhancers for Security in Urban Environments led by TNO The Netherlands. This project aims at developing and “early warning system” enabling a proactive/economically advantageous response to the coordination and management of urban security at a pan-European level.
