Air transport – Prof Lupi has been coordinator of the research project of relevant national interest
(PRIN 2004) entitled “Guidelines for the development of regional Italian airports”. Participating units:
University of Bologna (coordinator), University of Roma Tor Vergata of Rome, Mediterranean
University of Reggio Calabria, University of Palermo. The research had as main objective to develop
methods and models for the simulation of the air transport system making it possible to simulate the
effects of decisions that are taken for the programming of regional Italian airport system.
Maritime Transport – A detailed research has been carried out for the first time about the main deep
and short sea shipping routes of containerships, and of Motorways of Sea, departing from Italian
Personal Rapid Transit – Much research has been carried out on this topic, focused on the way to
increase the capacity of the PRT system in order to allow a rapid diffusion of it.
Transport demand – Italian air, railway and motorway transport demand has been studied in detail.
The research has taken into account the development and calibration of demand models and the study
of some key aspects of air transport demand.
Traffic Accident Analysis – The research has been focused in particular with the safety in galleries,
and on the calibration of macroscopic models.
