INSET’s research strategy aims at actively and systematically initiate and participate in national and international research projects. At the edge between ICT and social sciences, we are intensely engaged in the topics ICT and society and contribute to analyzing and developing social innovations.
INSET’s research interests are situated at the edge between information and communication technologies (ICT) and social sciences. Thereby, we are mainly engaged in the topic “ICT and society” and its multifaceted subareas, such as:
Web 2.0 and social media
Social media enable users, amongst others, to exchange opinions and comments on different topics. Combined with the latest monitoring and analysing technologies, this opens up new insights and spheres of activities for social sciences as well as market and opinion research.
eGovernance, eParticipation and eInclusion
Online services have been established for different citizen-oriented services in different political fields. In order to provide for the highest attainable quality management and development of these services, continuous monitoring and evaluation measures are necessary. Thereby, the problem of lacking electronic participation means in different and often marginalised citizen groups must not be ignored.
INSET considers security as comprehensive and interdisciplinary cross-sectional matter and therefore a relevant resarch area. Our focus mainly lies on practical interrelations and mutual effects of ICT and security.
eHealth, Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) and Smart Homes
Housing, health and care are important examples for future oriented research topics in our portfolio whose importance is continuously growing. Their connection with different types of ICT places the human being in the center of our research activities.
Mobility, Smart Metering and Smart Grids
INSET attaches great importance to the topics traffic, energy and environment. Here we can, too, identify a dense connection with ICT as well as high potential for our society and economy.
