Core competencies

The Police Academy in Szczytno is an accredited higher education institution and vocational Police Academy. Established in 1954, reorganized in 1990. Publishing four vocational journals: Internal Security in English, and three others in Polish. The Academy hires almost 190 of academic staff and provides education for more than 2 500 students. Persons trained in a short-term vocational training, workshops and seminars count circa 2 thousand each year. It provides higher education for both law enforcers and civilians on BA, MA, Ph.D and postgraduate level. It has an unique valor - simultaneously playing the role of the University, public body, law enforcement agency and end-user. The Academy serves also as a scientific center oriented towards security and safety related issues, terrorism threats counteraction and crisis management. It has been involved in a variety of research, innovation and training projects, including EU financed ones (PHARE, AGIS, DAPHNE, Leonardo da Vinci). The Academy is actively involved in cooperation with domestic and foreign institutions responsible for security both on the central and regional level. It is a member of the Association of European Police Colleges (AEPC) and the European Police College (CEPOL). In 2009 the School obtained the Erasmus Chart. It has been the venue of many conferences, seminars and workshops for law enforcers, researchers, academics, local authorities, NGOs and the private sector. The organization conducts or coordinates several research projects each year including comprehensive, high-budget development research projects. The Police Academy has started to build partnerships and taken up the end-user / consultants role in EU funded research projects. We are eager to expand our capacities and share in the field of innovation and research activity in EU.
