Core competencies

The mission of the National Institute for Research & Development in Environmental Protection (INCDPM) is to advance knowledge of science and to fulfil the society needs related to environmental protection, sustainable development and climatic changes, both at national and international level. The mission of the institute is asserted by specialists with professional experience, which may offer, any time, efficient solutions to different challenges regarding this field of knowledge, but also young researchers which are helped by experts in order to increase the technical and scientific quality of their work.
One of the main directions of INCDPM Bucharest is research on Danube River environmental protection, INCDPM Tulcea Branch – INCDDD performs mainly research regarding Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve ecosystem and INCDPM Constanta Branch – INCDM is involved mostly in research on Black Sea and the adjacent coastal area.

The strategic objectives of INCDPM are:
• Monitoring and assessing the quality of various environmental compartments (air, water, sediments, soil)
• Promotion and development of interdisciplinary research covering all environmental compartments
• Investigating and understanding the actual characteristics, the future variability and the relationships between different environmental elements and their impact on society
• Bringing significant, innovative contributions to the development of new environmental technologies
• Promoting and involving in new research directions (such as climate changes, nanotechnologies, etc.)
• Maintaining a balance between fundamental and applied researches and supports the feedback relationships between the two approaches.

The main fields of expertise are:

Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics
Climate Changes and Sustainable Development
Construction Impact on Environment and Ecological Rehabilitation
Eco-toxicological Studies
Environmental Quality Assessment
Natural and Technological Hazards
Natural Resources Management
Numerical Modelling and GIS
Physical, Chemical and Biological Analyses for all Environmental Compartments
Waste Management
