Core competencies

User requirements
We have access to a range of user organisations in the UK, Europe and indeed world-wide. This
enables us to work with partners to capture meaningful and relevant user requirements. We have also
gained sound experience in drafting project specific scenarios and case studies to elicit more detailed
user specifications when needed. In many projects, we find that our relevance and experience in real-
world incidents can be leveraged throughout project work packages in a keeping-it-real sense,
assisting adherence to sound practice among responders and agencies.

Demonstrations
We draw on project experience to date and complement it with our project managers’ and user
members’ wide operational knowledge and insight. We are well placed to advise and guide on the
development, planning and running of demonstrations for optimum effect. We possess a key
capability in being able to place demonstration activity in a recognisable user framework.

Dissemination
Our annual national event has achieved international recognition both as a unique multi-agency forum
for public safety professionals and as a showcase for top-level systems and equipment. It is attended
by influential members of the civil protection community, central government and industry.
Associates from the UK and Europe, and from APCO (USA, Canada and Australasia) also attend and
this arrangement is reciprocated. British APCO also runs a regular series of UK regional based road-
show events. We publish a quarterly magazine and a bi-monthly electronic news bulletin providing
updates, reports and articles of interest on relevant ICT and user related developments.
