Core competencies

Faculty of Maritime Studies, University of Rijeka is the oldest Maritime Education and Training institution of higher
education in the Adriatic area.Today it is a Faculty of higher professional education offering academic degree courses
in Nautical Science & Maritime Safety, Marine Engineering, Marine Electronics & Communications, Technology of
Maritime Transport, and Maritime and transport Logistics and Management ,. It has a total of 108 employees.
Academic staff has 64 persons In 2006 Faculty created Rijeka Innovation Living Lab that has been accepted (in the
4th wave) as a part of European Network of Living Labs (ENoLL). Rijeka iLivingLab most important capability is
possibility of research and innovation in interdisciplinary studies. It has access to persons involved integrated and
interdisciplinary research involving ICT, Maritime Transport, Logistics, International Trade Law, Maritime Economy
and Engineering, as well as implementation of new ICT technologies. PFRI is recognized as a one of leading croatian
faculties working with industry, primary in maritime and logistic sectors.
PFRI is/was involved as a work-package leader in EU-funded projects (FP6, FP7, ) and consists of an interdisciplinary
team of experienced experts. As part of the European Network of Living Labs ENoLL PFRi actively uses it´s Living
Lab for the development and evaluation of innovative services, especially focussing on open innovation, co-creation
and work in focus groups. PFRI, as a part of University of Rijeka, has as a been funding member of the ALADIN -
ALpe Adria Danube universities Initiative a regional network of universities created to support connectivity and
crossborder cooperation in ICT. PFRI is also supporting different associations especially in the field of Maritime
transport and Logistics.
