Core competencies
Alexandra M. Dias is Assistant Professor at the Department of Political Studies of NOVA/FCSH, NOVA
University
of Lisbon and a Researcher at the Portuguese Institute of International Relations at the same University
(NOVA
IPRI). She has been part and has been the Principal Investigator of several Research Projects. In this
context
she has done fieldwork in various Horn of Africa countries (Eritrea/Ethiopia/Somaliland-Somalia). Her
wider
research interests include Africa’s international relations in a changing global order with a particular
focus on
the Horn of Africa. She devotes particular attention to the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries
and
Emerging Powers. Her recent research project investigates A Critical Terrorism Studies Approach to
Counter-
Terrorism Responses in the global international society and in the African international society:
disentangling
forms of Radical Political Change and Violent Extremism. She has integrated the International Electoral
Observation Missions of Somaliland Presidential Elections in June 2010 and November 2017. She is a
founding
member of the Mediterranean Women Mediators Network and of the Global Alliance of Regional Women
Mediator Networks.
