Core competencies

Foresight & Policy Development is one of the five departments of the biggest Austrian non-university research institution, the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology.

The Foresight & Policy Development department focuses on innovation and sustainability research concerning the big challenges of the future, such as resource scarcity, climate change, increasing complexity of social and natural systems or globalization. The employees of the department publish their research findings in referenced journals, books or proceedings of international conferences. The department uses its scientific expertise for a sustainable development of regions, designing innovative infrastructures and opening chances for business activities. Forty employees from different scientific disciplines are integrated in international networks. Together with its approximately 150 cooperation partners, the department acts as an important think tank for the Austrian and European policy. It is a competence node for companies and an important partner for universities.

The Foresight & Policy Development department comprises three Business Units. The Business Units are specialized in the most important customer segments – Research, Technology & Innovation Policy, Regional and Infrastructure Policy, and Industry and knowledge-based service provider.
