Core competencies

AMAEM manages the complete urban water cycle (potable water supply, sewage, waste water treatment and reuse)
in Alicante (Spain) and 5 neighbour towns. AMAEM’s strategy is based on responsible and efficient management of
water resources, sustainable exploitation and protection of the environment and social engagement. Within the
water sector, AMAEM acts, both at national and international level as a reference benchmark for the development
and progress of the municipalities in which it operates. Being a part of the local administration, AMAEM has a close
perspective of the city problems and their solutions, sharing his knowledge with civil servants and citizens.
The company has made use extensive use of ICTs: mature GIS (implemented in 1991) managing exhaustive asset
information; SCADA covering the full network with 114 supervisory stations, 156 GSM stations and 25.000 signals
(GPRS/radio); advanced Automated Meter Reading infrastructure (120.000 meters in 2017, at a pace of 20,000 units
per year); energy efficiency optimization solutions.
