Core competencies

The Centre for International Studies (Ce.S.I. - Centro Studi Internazionali) was founded in Rome (Italy) by Prof
Andrea Margelletti, in 2004. Since then, Prof Margelletti has been the Chairman of the Institute.

The research and analysis activity of the Institute is based on the Open Source Intelligence methodology (OSINT),
supported by frequent travels to the countries of interest, from Europe to the Middle East, from Asia to Africa, and
by a continuous exchange of ideas and experiences with the most relevant stakeholders of the international
relations, security and defence sector.

The Institute works not only with private clients, but also with institutional partners, such as the Italian Parliament,
the Italian Government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defence, Armed Forces and Law Enforcement
Agencies.

Ce.S.I. can provide different products and services, such as analyses, reports, studies, briefings and early warnings.
The Institute can organize workshops, roundtables, conferences and training courses with high profile sector-
specific stakeholders, such as lawmakers, government officials, military officers and industry players, also in
partnership with our media-partner ANSA, the main Italian news agency.

Ce.S.I. is also active in the field of education and training, for different audiences: professionals and post-graduate
students (Executive Course on Geopolitical, Security and Defence analysis), for officials of the Italian Defence
General Staff (Winter School on Geopolitical, Security and Defence analysis) and for staff of international
organizations prior to their deployment abroad (“SSAFE: Safe and Secure Approaches in Field Environment”, with
Arma dei Carabinieri and FAO - Food and Agricoltural Organization).

In the 2017 edition of the University of Pennsylvania’s “Global go-to Think-tanks Index report (base year 2016) our
Institute ranked:
19th - Top Think Tanks with Annual Operating Budgets of Less than $ 5 Million USD;
51th - Top Think Tanks in Western Europe” (besides being the third think tank in Italy);
108th - Top Foreign Policy and International Affairs (one of the only three Italian think tanks considered);
168th - “Top Think Tanks Worldwide - US and non-US”.
