Cetaqua is a technology center that was set up in 2007 by Aigües de Barcelona (Suez Group utility), Universitat Politècnica de
Catalunya (UPC) and the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC). Cetaqua is a model of public-private
collaboration that was created to ensure the sustainability and efficiency of the water cycle while taking regional needs into
account. This model has consolidated as a benchmark in the application of the academic knowledge to water and to the
environment by creating products and services that benefit society.
Cetaqua is part of the international network of R&D centers of Suez which is one of the European Union’s premier suppliers of
environmental services in the waste management and water sectors. With +80,000 employees, Suez, which is present in the five
continents, is a key player in circular economy for the sustainable management of resources. The link with the private sector is
key to guarantee the transfer and exploitation of Cetaqua’s projects results.
It focuses its knowledge in six investigation lines: Alternative Resources, Impact of Global Change, Infrastructure Efficient
Management, Environment and Health, Water and Energy and Water Demand Management.
Cetaqua is currently working on a portfolio of over 40 publicly funded collaborative projects, including 14 LIFE projects (12 of
which it coordinates), 11 FP7 and 5 H2020 projects as partner; 16 projects with national funding, as well as over 50 projects
currently receiving private funding from Suez and other external companies. With 75 researchers, experts and specialists: 30% of
permanent staff are PhD graduates or students and 9% are Scientific and Technical Advisors from different universities of
